Hi
Just ordered a Bailey Unicorn Almeria and due to pick it up at the end of the month.
However, have looked at other sites, and there is mention of the on board water tank
being difficult to use.
I never thought about it when I viewed the van, as I have only ever had Swift caravans
in the past, and presumed my aquaroll woul still be used.
Any thoughts, experiences?

Hi Kevin.
We have the Olympus with the on board water tank, and have no probs with it at all. All we do is turn a leaver at the water heater which switches the water from the aquaroll . Only thing is on board tank only holds 23 ltr, so use the water hog mainly but the internal tank is quite good in winter as it dont freeze!

Dougie....

We too have an inboard tank on our Olympus. In my opinion the hose going into the tank should be longer. It is not long enough to enable me to pull the tank out on to the ground so that I can unscrew the cap. This has to be done before pulling out the tank or - if the tank has been filled, after it has been inserted. It's quite awkward.Ours is an early one so maybe its been altered since. It would be easy to modify myself if I found that I used it more than I do .Remember to drain it though if you do use it before towing away - its easy to forget and plays hell with the noseweight!

Having had a Superior on board tank on my 2004 senator, where the tank was easily filled and emptied from the outside, and held 40 liters.
The one on the unicorn is a joke.
In my option you are better off just using two 40 liter rolls, but this involves going outside to swap over, not ideal if its wet or winter.
Its also a problem to empty, you can try to pump it out, but that means you have to ensure the pickup tube is on the bottom of the tank.
Which means you have to remove cushions to easily access the tank, a real pain, not to mention the difficulty in getting to the change over lever.

What i have done is to fit a 12volt socket so i can fill the tank with a submersible pump from the roll. The tank can be turned from the outside of the caravan, and the pick up hose can be removed and refitted from the outside also,( you may need to remove a hose clip and move it further back, i replaced mine with a screw, as the nails are pretty useless, they pull out easily.)
This allows the tank to be filled. And the tank can be left in the reverse position.
I have found the tank difficult to remove with water in it, its slipped out of my hands, and on one occasion knocked the door off, luckily the clever design of the plastic hinge allowed me to replace it with out damage.
Another problem we have encountered is the pump going on air, after selecting the roll from the on board, via the hard to access lever.
Not sure why this happens, but the pump runs constantly, so quietly you can hardly hear it, i have found if i open the drain lever the pump will re prime.
I think there is still a requirement for a pump running light, it cant be good to have the pump running constantly. so make sure you turn the pump switch off when you vacate the caravan.
The old Vermont system had no levers but a separate pump inside the on board, all that was required was a flick of a switch to change from one pump or the other, i never realized how good it was until i bought the Valencia.

Kelvin.
The Baily on board tank I believe works slightly different to our Stirling but Im sure yours will work the same .
When your on a fully serviced pitch there is no need to keep filling the aqua roll at all I wont go into details but that is where an board tank comes into its own.
Good luck with you van and dont forget we are all here if you need questions answering

Thanks for the replies. Does it mean that I can continue to use the aquaroll without bothering with the on board tank?
Once again, thanks

Yes
If you are on a fully serviced pitch then i assume you need the gadget for the roll.
As i don't see how you can connect too the on board.

Kelvin and Ray you are both correct, (1) you can carry on using your aqua roll without the onbord tank ,I believe you just turn a tap not sure tho.(2) if the Bailey system is like the Sterling my van then yes you may need the adaptor for your aqua roll, but please dont quote me on this . I didnt want to go into depth as Kelvin hasnt collected his van yet. I bought my aqua roll adaptor from ebay the H2flo version very cheap and works well.
