My Dad wants to travel by camper van from Bath to the Scottish Highlands and wants to know if anyone has a route they would recommend together with places to stay over night. Can anyone help.

Our favorite site in the highlands is Rothiemurchus at Coylumbridge which is about a mile from Aviemore, get a forest pitch and it is so tranquil beside the river and watching the wild life. Some lovely walks. TV reception isnt great but the site has a booster system.

If hes stopping off on the way up like we did Francis the C.C. site at Sedgwick near Kendal is excellent. Only just off the M6 too. Its all wooded with the River Kent running alongside, friendly wardens too.

Hi Francis,

We did a tour in early May this year, starting off at North Ledaig caravan park,Connel nr. Oban. This is a 5* site overlooking the water.....stunning views and good facilities on site.

We then moved to Caravan Club site at Bunree,8miles south of Fort William.( non-members welcome ) Again this is a site overlooking the water towards Ardnamurchan.Extremely popular,so always advisable to book ahead.

From there we travelled north to the Club site at Morvich. The journey there was breathtaking. The site is surrounded by mountains, and a day trip to Skye can be done quite easily from there. We also visited Plockton which is where Hamish McBeth was filmed....scenery to die for.

Northwards to the Club site at Kinlochewe....the area is absolutely beautiful, but the site was not up to Club standards and we wrote to complain about the facilities. From there we visited Applecross, going over the infamous Pass of the Cattle, and had a great lunch in the local pub which has an award winning lady chef, but NOT overinflated prices.

We then travelled east towards Inverness and stayed at the Club site at Culloden, and very nice it was too.

Our last site was at Blair Atholl...Blair Castle Caravan Park. This is also a 5* site near Pitlochry with some of the most luxurious toilet facilities that I have ever seen !!!Endless choice of walks through the estate and of course a visit to the Castle if wished. They do have a web-site.

In that time we were away 3 weeks and spent an average of 3 nights at each site.Next year we are hoping to do the very far north to complete the picture.

Hope this is helpful to you.The way the fuel prices are going might dictate how far we travel for our holidays !!

I can highly recommend Inver Mill Farm caravan park, on the A9 at Dunkeld. It's a beautiful site on the banks of the river Braan. We had a couple of nights there last week, and were mightily impressed. Also, Dornoch caravan & Camp park, in the highlands (40 miles above Inverness). The setting is awesome, right on the sand dunes leading to a fantastic brach. The shower blocks are a little basic, but it's still well worth a visit.

Head North on the M5 and M6 and stay overnight at Tebay.

The Westmorland Service area at Tebay, just south of Penrith, has a proper caravan site next door so you don't have to stray off the motorway. By stopping here you are splitting your journey into two fairly equal parts. The less time you spend getting to the Highlands the more time you have to enjoy them when you get there. You have got to go to Applecross campsite and have the breakfast in the bakery on the site. Fantastic!!!

I know Applecross well, I have relations in Achnashellach. How the hell do you get a Caravan to Applecross?? Surley not through Loch Carron.
