bathroom door has warped/bowed

Hi There

Any advice appreciated on this. Just out getting van ready for first trip of year and discovered bathroom door of bailey pageant bretagne 7 series has warped quite badly.

Its now very hard to close the door, kids could not manage and very obviously bowed once closed

Should we be looking for replacement or can this be repaired. It would be a major drama and alot of miles to get to dealer..

van is not yet year old.

Thanks in advance

Brenda

You will find that at this time of year with all the cold damp air, the wood will have absorbed moisture causing it to expand.

Once you get some heat in the van it will will dry out the wood and shrink back to normal

Is it the door or the lock?

Our Wyoming had a problem but it wasn't a warped door but a weird lock. All sorted now.

Cheers

Alan

A door should not warp if it has been manufactured correctly.

If the caravan is under warranty speak to your dealer. They may be able to send you the door, rather than you having to take the caravan back.

Other wise see what happens when the caravan has been used for a while, as Big Roy says it might return to its correct shape.

in my experience the doors which bailey are using now do not normally warp. there are 2 main reasons for people struggling with these doors, 1. the corner steadies are over tight therefore twisting the chassis or 2. the party wall has moved or is warped giving the impression that the door is warped.

to know for sure if it is warped, use a straight edge down the door or a large spirit level.

remember if a dealer does infact send out any replacement parts, if you fit them yourself and as a result either the part gets damaged or results in causing other problems, these will NOT be covered under the terms and conditions of the warranty. i would say it is always better to take it back to the dealer to assess the problem and for them to fix. this is the main reason i only deal with local dealers.

Brenda, When I first left my new Explorer van over winter in spring I found the b/r door had jammed in its frame and took a lot of shifting. At spring service the engineer shaved a little off the hinge edge but advised if he took any more off come dryer weather the door wd shrink back and create the opposite, sure enough it did. I now leave ice cream cartons of anti-damp crystals on the van floor and all doors and lockers open over winter and touch wood never had the problem re-occur. However I think you may have a different problem and u should get dealer to order u another door under warranty.

Hi Brenda

I reckon that, as others have said, it is due to damp air at this time of year and the van left standing with no heat. This has happened with all the vans I have owned over 30 years of caravanning and always the doors, locker lids etc have reverted back to original shape and will close and lock without any problems. I have always left the lockers and doors open so that air can circulate and occasionally put the fire on to warm through ( probably once a month for 3-4 hours)

Hope no more problems

Graham

Hello Brenda,

I agree with Graham. I left my washroom door ajar one winter thinking it would allow air to circulate. After a few weeks I visited the van to find I couldn't close the door it was so tight in the frame. As the weather warmed up it reverted to normal.
