Battery and Fridge

Just double checking a procedure !

I have a Bailey Pageant S5, when travelling we have all the on -board switches OFF ( on control panel) and the fridge switch to battery.

I assume that this is running the fridge and also charging the caravan battery.

It's not like vans of old when there was a car/mains switch and all so straightforward.

Hi John.

I have a Senator Indiana S5 and certainely on my 'van, my battery charges and my fridge (fridge set to battery) works fine with all main control panel switches in OFF position, when I am towing. I understand all this is done with "habitation" relays which are now fitted to most new 'vans.

The way it works on my 2004 bailey is as follows.

1/ the fridge is charged when the car is running(that is car battery volts are high enough to energise relay in car).

fed via a relay placed in the car.

This supply also pulls in a relay located behind the 12v fuses located in the caravan.(habitation relays?)

2/ this relay then charges the van battery from the permanent supply from the car.
