BATTERY CHARGER ON ABI AWARD SUNSTAR

I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY CHARGER ON MY SUNSTAR.EVERY TIME I SWITCH IT ON IT EITHER BLOWS THE 5 AMP FUSE OR CRACKLES & SMOKES IS THE CHARGER KNACKERED I HAVE EVEN DISCONNECTED IT FROM ALL THE 12 VOLT POWER & TURNED IT ON & THE SAME HAPPENS.

MY LOCAL CARAVAN SHOP IS TELLING ME IT SOUNDS LIKE A FAULTY CHARGER & NEEDS REPLACING @ £100 PLUS £50 FITTING

From your description it does indeed read like an internal fault, and you could either replace or attempt to find someone who can repair chargers (like the charger manufacturer) - but it's probably exactly the wrong time for it to fail.

Replacement:

If it's a stand-alone unit - with a mains lead running to a socket and 12V leads running to the battery - then there is a whole range of suitable (multi-stage - intelligent) chargers that you could buy and fit yourself.

If it is physically integrated into some of the other power supply modules - shares part of the casing perhaps - then you will need to buy a new charger from the dealer.

Fitting it yourself - depends on your competence with DIY and electrical appliances - it's the next skill step up from changing a plug - but if you are unsure, get a competent person to do it.

THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE IT DOES LOOK EASY TO REPLACE MYSELF I AM WONDERING IF IT IS MY MOTOR MOVER THAT HAS CAUSED THE PROBLEM I TAKE IT THE LEAD IS JUST A PLUG IN LEAD A BIT LIKE A KETTLE LEAD GOING INTO THE MAINS
