Battery Charger

Being new to caravanning I still going through the big learning curve and at the moment trying to find out how is the best way to keep the battery charged up.

Is there a special battery charger for leisure batteries? I have a charger that has Auto & perminant float settings, is this liable to be suitable?

Also when and for how long is it best to charge the battery? I have 2 batteries (one on the van and one spare), is it best to keep one on a constant float charge so it is ready when needed?

Thanks in advance for any help or comments.

Lead acid batteries self discharge - maybe 1% a day, maybe more, maybe less. The problem is that as the battery discharges, an irreversible Sulfate deposit builds up and kills the battery.

So the best way to maximise useful battery life is to keep it fully charged - especially through the winter.

Either charge the battery and leave it on a dedicated float (trickle) charger - or use an automatic charger and allow it to recharge and condition the battery once a week or once a month.

And if you have two batteries - and need another auto-charger - then LIDL have the Techno (CTEK XS 3600 work-alike) auto-charger in stock this week for
