Hi all

This may seem a daft question but I don't know the answer. My new Ranger 460/4 has built in battery charger, in my old van there was a switch to turn charger on, in new van there's not so how do I know it's working?

Thanks Ian

Same for me (I bought my series 5 new in December last year - preferred the interior of the series 5 compared with the series 6). I suppose you will know if your battery goes flat.

if your caravan has a battery meter on the switch panel

if it reads anything over 13 volts, the charger should be working, if you put as much 12 volt equipment on as you can and the guage does not drop below 12 then its working fine.

if you have no guage if you put a meter across your battery

when mains is plugged in you should get a reading of approx 14 volts

Thanks for that, when we were away last time the gauge never showed above 13v but with all lights on and pump being used it never really dropped below 12v so I assume all is okay.

Thanks Ian

A rudimentary but very easy check is to see how the brightness of your lights [filament type] change as you uncouple/switch off the mains supply to the van. If the chargers working it will be very evident; much brighter if the charger works.
