Battery Charging

WE have purchased a new leisure in France a 100 amp but it will not charge from the van and from a battery charger we can only get it to charge to 12v and then it discharges we think there is a fault in the van but as it is a gel battery should it charge to a higher number, HELP

If it is not charging from the van, then there is a fault with the charger.

With no mains power connected to the van, measure the battery voltage at the terminals, it should be 12.6 or thereabouts.

Now connect mains to van, ensure charger is on and any selector switches set to site use.

Now measure the battery voltage at the terminals again, it should be 13.8 or thereabouts, if not ,faulty charger.

Hi Christine, fistly the average caravan charger will not charge a battery fully, only to about 80%. secondly a gel battery must be charged with a charger that can be used on a Gel battery as they can be damaged using an ordinary charger.Below are 2 website links that may help
