Battery Gone Flat

I think I may have a problem with the charging unit on my 1992 Bailey Scorpio. After running a portable cooler for a few hours the battery went almost flat even though I was connected to mains supply on site.

I swapped the battery with a helpful neighbour and same thing happenned with his battery, but my old battery charged up ok on his caravan.

Seems my charger is not charging the battery.

Do I need a new charger or could there be a simple fix?

Any ideas on where I might get a replacement (BCA) from eg caravan breakers etc as would prefer not to buy new? Also, are they easy to fit?

Hi,

It could be one of a number of things, and if you want to fault find this yourself you will need a reasonable digital meter (Maplins or some B&Q shops - expect to pay around

you say that you ran a portable cooler for a couple of hours.was this on mains or 12volt. i ask this because your 12volt charger is not intended for this it will only supply enough to charge the battery at a low rate(lower than the amount of current that your cooler will take).try running cooler off mains!

Thanks Rob and Tom for your suggestions.

Will do the things you suggest and see what if I can find out what the problem is.

On subject of caravan breakers I was thinking of a 2nd hand unit on the basis of cost as the caravan itself is getting on a bit and I didn't want to spend a huge amount on a new charger if I could get one 2nd hand that would do the job. But I do take your point could be a false economy
