Battery Locker Catches

I have recently taken delivery of a new Sterlimg Europa. At collection I noticed that it was very difficult to get the catches to engage fully on the battery box locker cover. The dealer explained this was normal and you need to push up with some force. This seems to engage the catches ( at least partially) but you can not get them to positvely 'click' into position.

I have not had any problems so far and just wondered whether this was indeed normal and if they can be adjusted or whether they will start to fully engage as the seal gets older.

Any thoughts?

Hi John ,I have an Abbey Spectrum just over a year old and have the same problem ,dealer has " adjusted" both my boxes ,but I still have to give them a firm push to get them to lock ,I think it must be a common problem ,my freinds Bessacar has the same prob

John,

I agree with Grandadbaza, it's a common problem. I too have this problem on my Lunar, only it's on one of the Wet Locker catches,

best regards, Martin

If you lubricate the seals with silicone polish etc it helps

I find a knee against the door framing helps when closing

I also push on the key when releasing the catch to open snd sometimes this needs a press on the framing to compress the rubber

Its better than having leaking seals

Its normal. Just the sort of cheap rubbish, that we have to contented with.(rather like our weather, which is why i am writing here, instead of installing my pond filter system).

With practise, its not a problem, always grease the inside catch, it helps the action, and stops corrosion.

Adjustment is possible, i think i bent the lever out on mine, but i have to push with one hand, and operate the key with the other.

l have the problem with my Ace Firestar battery box, the worst was trying to get it open, had a good look and found the plastic pin that goes through the hinge was not located properly, "refitted it" problem alot better but still need to push down a little to release the catche's, hoping it will get better with use.

We took our new Coachman back to the dealers as the wet locker sprang open as we were going along. We were told to lock it with the key and "Knee it until you hear the click" if you please. That just about sums it up.
