Battery Suitability

Been looking at Energy 100 AH SFL Batteries but not sure if they are suitable for my caravan (Carver mover fitted). Don't know much about batteries, just want to know if it would suit and that I could get my quick release connections on it. It suggests that I would be able to use it to start my 2000cc diesel car in an emergency as well. I have an 110 AH battery at the moment but it is very heavy to lug in and out of the van when necessary. These Energy batteries seem a lot smaller and lighter. Any advice and guidance would be well received.

I have been using a medium size car battery which is about half the weight of my old 110AH leisure battery for the past four years. I have a Carver (Truma) mover and found this worked better with the car battery, possibly because a car battery is designed for high current drain for short periods whereas a leisure battery is designed for low current drain for long periods. Had no problems but we do usually use a mains hook up. I have used it to start my 3 L diesel in an emergency which I doubt a leisure battery would cope with.

Thanks Will, bought a new 85 amp yesterday and hoping for the best. I'll minimise the use of the mover and sharpen up my reversing skills.

Why do you need to remove the battery? I leave my van in storage and use it on rally's etc

If it is just for charging then maybe a genorator or solar panel is a good idea. I use a small solar panel on the roof with a charge controller while in storage and the battery is normally fully charged when I need it.

You are right the battery is too heavy to lug around.

I am not sure but I think this is the type of battery that I have, if it is then it has carbon fibre cells, and will not be prone to sulphation which normal leisure batteries do, this due to constant low charging from hook ups, -----and will shorten the battery life considerably------i have a mover and the battery copes no bother, also it has a five year guarantee---I liked that-----hope this helps
