I am very lucky on this occasion as the company doing the work have got a recently refurbished Fraser Brown axle in and are doing the job in one day for me - the brake drums and shoes on my existing axle are only one year old so they will get swapped over as well.

Steve
I seriously looked at FB as they have a good reputation. But the small repairer that was prepared to remove and replace the axle were not prepared ( understandably) to warranty it. Plus they would make the transport frame and arrange courier, but Labour costs were at their normal rate, or I could do it myself or use a carpenter.

Even just replacing the axle with a new Alko one wasn’t straightforward. New ones were available from Western Towing but they couldn’t guarantee fitment. Even though the failed axle had its manufacturing label and bar code on it Alko could not confirm that Western Towings new axle would fit. So I talked to my Swift dealership, Tilshead Caravans, and the liased with Alko. Too their surprise Alko would not supply a new axle even with the failed axles label, serial number and barcode supplied to them. They insisted the caravan was physically measured against a drawing supplied by Alko. So the dealership had the van in for a couple of hours to measure it and liaise with Alko. Once that was done they got Alko to accept an order for a new axle. Tilshead then gave me a firm price for supply and fitment of a new axle assembly with warranty. Even they were surprised at the “faff” involved.

So you are quite lucky in having found a repairer with a Fraser Brown unit in stock and ready to fit.

Good information to know.
Will let you know how it goes - the caravan dealer (Webbs of Salisbury) have been good to us so when they recommended I go straight to the repair shop they use for this work I trusted them.
The shop are also going out of their way to help us out by doing the work on a Saturday do we are taking it there and leaving with them and they will call us when it’s done so we can pick it up and get back home the same day, and also it will be done in time for our other planned holidays (Eye Kettleby Lakes in June then Eastham Hall in Lytham in August).

Just got caravan and car ready to head off on first trip.

Winds now gusting to +50 supposedly and it's raining, which at least has washed away the sprinkling of snow we had last night.

Now waiting for it to hopefully die down a bit before connecting up and setting off.

Not in any great hurry to get to first stopover.

Webbs have been going years so if it’s a repair shop they use I’m sure that it will be fine.

Have a safe trip👍
We are heading home tomorrow and have just taken our awning down in breezy conditions… packed it away and five minutes later the heavens opened.

Been to look around this fixer upper today, and although the weather was overcast it was still worth going.

Photos will be added to the gallery later.
Back on site now where it’s raining and breezy.

Steve
We love Ludlow and the castle but opposite the gate we always have a icecream so looking at your photos once again, bring back memories when we were there .

Well done and good luck, correct decision not to take the awning in this inclement weather.
Currently persisting it down again here.

Steve
We are away next Thursday for The Woosie Spring meet up.
I have requested, for reasonable weather, New Porch awning, never been put up. So the challenge is Getting the Awning up, before divorce papers signed
