I used my portable BBQ last night only to discover that the food was a bit sooty. The flame wasnt burning as it normally did. It came supplied with a propane fitting and i changed it to butane, could this be the prob or is it now goosed altogether?

Hello Yvonne,

Your BBQ should be recoverable -

It probabably just needs a good clean.

Use hot soapy water and a nylon bottle brush to get to the inside of the burner. Rinse with water.

Do not use a steel brush as this can damage the small gas injector hole.

allow it to dry thourouhly before attemptinmg to use the BBQ again.

Butane or propane should be fine - but it they do need have a clean burner for best results.

In any doubt refer it to a gas fitter.

Hi Yvonne,

I think the barbecue gremlins must have been at work!. We had the same problem this weekend.Just to add a twist to John L's theory we tried 2 different Barbie's one on Saturday and one on Sunday with both the same results. Both barbie burners had been cleaned and the only factor we came up with was that we used the same butane gas bottle.

I believe that I read on the forum a while ago about contaminated gas bottles, could this be the problem?.

Look forward to any other theory's.

Regards,

Nidge
