Be Aware Services Parking

Our son foolishly used the services at Moto Washington South Services. He over stayed by almost an hour ( sleeping ) and has been issued with a charge of £80 or £50 if paid within the next 14 days.

Would just like to make people aware that this has been done Electronically ie clocking you in and out by Number Plate Recognition with the DVLA providing our name and address.

Ok we admit this was broke the parking rules, but I would like to point out that the Goverment place signs on the Motorways saying Tiredness can Kill, but they don't half make it difficult for people to take a rest. Should you wish to rest for 3 hours the cost is £8 albeit you could stay for up to 24 hours. This is a racket to obtain extra revenue for the Service Operator. Just thought people should be aware.

Hi,

Is that a legitimate reason for DVLA to disclose ownership details? Sorry, "keepership" details. I mean, who says the keeper was actually driving?

Is this charge form a private company? If so I would not pay it! They would have to prove who actually was driving, and are very unlikely to want to go to court etc.

The service area operators have to provide 2 hours free parking as part of their lease agreement with the gov't.That together with toilets and refreshment areas.I suppose anything over and above that they can charge what they like. I wonder if the lorries are charged or pay a parking fee to park overnight.

Gumbo, do NOT pay this money.

It is a private company 'invoicing' an individual. It is NOT a 'charge' or 'penalty', just a bill. They would have to prove that your son knowingly entered into a contract with them.

They will send you a letter about once per month. These will also start to resemble 'solicitors letters'. Then you get some that appears to be from bailiffs. No bailiffs can come round because nobody has been to court for an order. They never will go to court. Note what 602 said earlier in the post. All they have is a registration number. If a person lent their car to another person they are then not liable for that persons private agreements. I'm not telling you to say that the registered keeper was not driving, just don't say anything at all to these people. They have to go to court to prove it. If they do, I'll pay it for you 🙂
