Becoming a caravan club warden

Hi all, we are seriously considering applying to become CC wardens, any feedback on the pros and cons would be much appreciated, any tips from existing wardens would be greatly appreciated!

We spoke with a couple on a private site a few weeks ago at Cullen. They had both left jobs in the West Midlands, and appeared totally relaxed with the lifestyle change. They stayed in a static on the site (mixture of Statics and Tourers ) and of course seasonal tourers. They had a Fleetwood which they intended to use in Spain/Portugal when the season ends. Then back to the UK for the new seasons start.

If you have a CC site near you I would suggest volunteering there. It will give you a good insight into what the job involves, and a real eye opener as to the way some people treat you and the facilities. We done this with a view to becoming wardens until health issues got in the way, but we really injoyed it and made some good friends.

We were talking to the wardens of a C&CC site in N.W.Scotland earlier this year and they had done a similar thing to Frank's wardens.They absolutely loved their lifestyle regardless of weather and the odd awkward customer.

Grab the opportunity.If you don't you may regret it.

If you are keen start applying now,we applied nearly two years ago,selection has taken 18 months, which we were successful with but are still waiting for a placement.

Hi Tony, thanks for the note, we contacted the CC, unfortunately they aren't accepting application forms until next June/July!

Looks like we will have to wait until next year.

It's quite heartening that the CC continue to call their employees, 'Wardens'

The CC, trying to be trendy, re-badged 'em as 'Holiday Sit Managers', which is as absurdly PC as changing the title of a hatchet-faced boarding house Landlady to that of 'Leisure Co-ordinator'

However, for those who wish to marvel at the sheer creativity of human beings, I give you Northern Ireland's Orange Parades! - I listened open mouthed with astonishment as a leading Ulsterman informed the BBC (with no apparent hint of mirth) that the burly chaps who steward the twirling drummers and lodge banner holding marchers are now called.............................'Holiday Facilitators! I kid you not!

Hi andrew&sally,you can try the cc&c they will drag you in so quick your feet wont touch,But be aware you will work more hours than you will be payed for,training will be at a minimum,and hopefully you may get a decent manager at a decent site.I suggest you go for the CC as they look after thier staff,and training is of a higher standard,The other alternative is to work on a comercial site,I have several friends who would not work anywhere else.

You could try the job centre, I know Aberdeenshire Council advertised earlier in the year for wardens and assistant wardens on various sites.

Hello Andrew and Sally , I hope you all the luck in the world to your efforts in becoming Warden/wardens . Personally I don't know if I could stand the pain of a frontal labotomy , eye sight narrowing and rigid right index finger . I would certainly enjoy the pursing of lips and sucking in attitude , wearing oddball clothing and ( the best one ) pretending to be happy and really wanting to look after you and your needs . Maybe I sound a little harsh but the system seems to dehumanise most wardens/site operatives , but you have a great chance of coming out the other side , if you keep to being joyful,helpful and sensible enough to realise all caravanners ARE different .-- Steve .
