Hi all newbie here trying to sort bed linen for motorhome and l am not sure what to buy, l have looked at Duvalay but they are expensive, any advice please, do others buy mattress toppers, duvets or sleeping bags, Thank you all in advance

Not a Motorhome but my wife uses a 25 mm Duvalay topper, and we’ve both always used sleeping bags. The sleeping bags use hollowfill fibre and are cotton outers. But it’s very much a personal choice.

Have a 2 berth caravan so make up the front lounge into a bed. We have a double mattress topper ( the panda one from Costco) in a double duvet cover. This goes on the bed as the underneath. Just chuck it on, no trying to fit a sheet. We have a double duvet on top. In the past we had a double duvet in a cover instead of the mattress topper, but OH’s back prefers the memory foam. Finding day time storage for it all is a consideration. We get it all into the wardrobe and keep clothes in lockers.

We use normal bedding, a king size sheet and a duvet but the bed in ours is pretty near a standard size. Some can be odd shapes and sizes and Jonic are specialists in supplying this and have reasonable prices.

My main bed at home is a rather expensive memory foam/ sprung affair, so so comfy and I use a Feather and Down quilt, as I need some weight in my Quilt otherwise I don't settle. Really can't bear the lightness of an hollow fibre quilt.
My last caravan a 2 berth, I didn't use a mattress topper, but had brought a very expensive all singing and dancing double sleeping bag, and it was lovely.... But alas it went AWOL when my caravan was stolen back in May.
The caravan has been replaced with a 4 berth fixed bed affair. But alas I couldn't bring myself to spend so much money replacing my sleeping bag... But the mattress that comes with the caravan, isn't a memory foam but heck its comfy as hell.
So this time around, I decided to go for a cheap feather and down quilt, standard flat sheet (which works with the odd shaped mattress) at quarter of the price of my double sleeping bag!
So yep it's personally preference, and often there is a cheaper version of the most expensive on the market that does the job just as well.

We have a 2 berth van so have to make up the bed. Which ever way you put the cushions the cracks between them make it uncomfortable somewhere. We bought a double layer mattress topper from Asda and would highly recommend it. Fitted sheet and duvet on top.
When I make up the double bed I position the cushions so the joins are under the head and foot areas - still using a double sleeping bag !

The position of joints may depend on the way the bed is made up. We have had the conventional lounge where you are simply putting four cushions along the width of the bed and that is easy enough. On some though the bed is made up of several cushions shaped to fit but in a different configeration and with that avoiding the cracks in the wrong place is not possible and a topper could be the answer.
I agree that conventional bedding will work for most, but some beds are odd sizes and if across the width of the caravan can be over 7, in those cases specific bedding may be a better option.

We got rid of our Memory foam mattress. Too soft for Mrs H. And put back the original mattress with a Dunelm "Rebound Mattress Topper" it's been great £36 rather than the £600 we paid for a specially cut memory foam mattress that we are trying to get rid off still. ( look at items for sale)
You don't need special bedding or sleeping bags unless you already have them; we have a rounded end on our fixed bed, but we just use regular 'domestic' bedding, a flat double sheet and a double duvet with covers we had spare from our old double bed. We have an OEM Duvalay mattress which is quite firm, so have a cheapo Dunelm mattress topper, which is now quite thin, so will need replacing for the 2021 season.
Dear Newbie
Are there any manufacturers of jersey cotton sheets anywhere in the UK? Carrefour in France and Belgium is a good quality supplier as is Real in Germany. A cheap option is Action in the Netherlands. However having been out of the UK for many years I don't know of any jersey cotton supplier, look around.
For odd shaped motorhome mattresses we have found that jersey cotton with clips and elastic on the back are ideal and keep tight.
Regular duvet from Ikea.
Some accessory stores have a mattress and topper make to measure supplier, we are meaning to go down to our local to enquire about memory foam toppers for our odd shaped beds. These may be costly option but prolonged travel could be a godsend.
Just as a follow on - how do you position the seats for the beds? What I mean is that the bench seats usually are usually raised at the front edge, so, do you turn the seats around so the bumps are at the top and bottom , or left and right. Or do you turn the seats right over so they're flat?

Always face up. Just play around to see how best the fit together. I tend to have the main seats with bumps so bumps away from my middle and at the foot and head ends by spinning them around but face up still.

We does exactly that, but only because we got a reasonably priced sheet at the Malvern show. Previously we used a standard fitted sheet with added clips.

We have tried fitted sheets but found that as the bed is not the standard 4'6" by 6'6" it was not tight enough and found a flat sheet worked far better on the side bed with the cut out at the foot. With a transverse bed the flat sheet still seems the better option but not as vital.
