For the first time in years I have today removed the Wyoming’s battery to charge at home. Usually as we are away a lot she gets charged regularly on site. I have a smart charger which will go on tomorrow until it cuts out. Thereafter what do you guys suggest I do to keep the battery in fully operational condition? It is three years old and 120amp hour
 
Consider switching the onboard charger/power supply off and use the smart charger exclusively - if the onboard unit has no switch, the disable its wiring.
 
Keep it on the smart charger if you can. Is you van at home, the van charger will do. What ever you do, don't let discharge then let stand.
 
The van is in storage hence the reason for removal .The on board charger is a new one from Apuljack, far superior to the rubbish oem.
 
My van stays in store and the battery always comes home. Anti theft measure to some degree. It goes on my CTEK for a few days and goes back on after a month or there abouts. But in that period I will check the voltage but to be honest it drops very little. But after a month it will go on charge again. But I guess leaving it on the CTEK throughout would be fine.
 
My caravan is in storage but the battery is with it when it had a service he check over and put it on charge it now fully charge it only 15 month old .
 
The Ctek chargers are designed to both charge and when the initial charge has been achieved they switch to a maintenance level which can be left connected indefinitely. The battery will be optimally maintained and ready to go.

There are other makes of chargers that offer similar operation, but you should check their specifications.

I use an Aldi and an Lidl charger on two standby batteries, and so far they have also been fine and in continuous use for over 4 years.
 
As the Prof says attach to a good smart charger and leave it; having too many vehicles my 2 smart chargers get rotated weekly so each battery is on charge once a week till full and it goes to 'tickover' then move to the next!
 
When using a smart charger, still remember if it's not a sealed battery to check the electrolyte level... I used to have a motorcycle with a plain old LA battery, and learnt that lesson the hard way when using an Optimate over the winter...
 
So , 18 hours later my smart charger at home says the battery is fully charged. I reckon that’s right. It has been without power input for four months and used in the interim for mover and radio and lights. It’s a Numax 120 ah, three years old. Will test it tomorrow and hopefully see 13+volts..
All being well we will go away in October with a few of the Woosies🤪🤪
