What's the one thing you have bought, or been given which has been worth its weight in gold?

Mine is a Dorema porch awning, I bought it second hand for about £40 and it was immaculate and hardly used. We use it to put the two dog crates in there (along with the dogs). It's absolutely brilliant, you can hang wet clothes up to dry out, boots, keeps the dogs safe, and takes less than ten minutes to put up. It's been heavily used by us. It withstood all that snow when we got snowed in here in November.

Lisa,I have to say the satellite kit is our best buy. It keeps Himself happy with his Spanish football and I watch it if I am awake at night. Also it is invaluable for rainy evenings!!! The close second is a little plastic fold up stool that cost £5 off Gt Yarmouth market, we use it to get to the microwave and wardrobe switches. As you can tell we are vertically challenged!!!

Ours would be the George Foreman grill. A lot quicker that the grill on the oven and a lot less hassle than a bbq. My only regret is that we only got the 2 person one should have gone a bit bigger, it can be a bit of a squeeze getting a pair of steaks on it.

Agreed on the george formbie as we call it.
I've got 3 others though.
An 18 inch long 100mm wide paint roller handle minus the roller. Great for hooking the awning open and shut if you've got a dodgey back.
Dog tie down cork screws:- excellent storm tie downs. Ours have stood up to 70Mph gusts.

Both of the above available at 99p stores, a wee bit cheaper than pounland :)

Then there's the 6'000lb 12v electric winch the kids (28 &22) got me off flea bay, last fathers day. It can be an absolute god send. I made an adaptor bracket to fit to the tow bar of our car. Now using the car as dead weight I can winch the trailers anywhere. I've even had to put the car in gear with the engine off and put a dog tie down in the ground to strap the car down before the winch even got strained let alone give up when used with a snatch block. Used single line, it has 50ft of pull at 6'000lbs rolling, so plenty man enough to tug my sailing dinghy & trailer up any sensible slope or river bank.

Since we've been full timing, we have come up with neumerous ways of making caravanning life simpler and less of a chore.

Sorry this is not a sarcastic answer, but my reply to your question would be;

My Caravan, I just love it, OH says I should now marry it
smiley-laughing.gif

It gives me a differant outlook on life, something to look forward to,
forced me to sit back and relax more. Met and talk to like minded folk
bore people to death who havent got a van. Only wish I could use it more often .

OMG think I'm a van FREAK

It's a bit like when we lived in South America. My dad never had to sleep under a mosquito net. I ended up in hospital, such were the severity of the bites. LOL!

Right, I've just googled. The cream (produced for a specific purpose) has also been found to assist in the reduction of facial wrinkles. We all know Gary Glitter had strange eyes and used to raise his eyebrows to enhance them further.

There was no offence meant in his post about Gary Glitter. Yes, we all know what Gary Glitter did and probably is still doing but the comment was in relation to his eyes. Nothing else.

I agree with the Hitler/Bin Larden comments too.

Perhaps I'm over sensitive, but with his vile background that obliterates any of his past, I find it hard to condone any jokes to wards him or otherwise, the mere thought of him makes me want to throw up, I can think of lots of other people where reference could have been made to the mentioned medical treatment, and the application to your eyelids.

Before everyone gets too excited and starts to take sides I've removed the post by Forest Gump.
Posts about a convicted paedophile such as Paul Gadd a.k.a. Gary Glitter are guaranteed to lead to arguments because of the strength of feeling about issues surrounding child abuse. The comments were in rather bad taste anyway and added nothing at all to the topic under discussion and they would not have remained even without the mention of the child molester

My son bought me Swiss Army Knife last birthday. Brilliant tool. Even comes with a mini screwdriver for doing up the little screws in glasses.
Very versatile, I love the toothpick too.

A "Step Up" from Wickes. This is an aluminium folding step with a decent platform. Excellent for us vertically challenged to put the awning up! Not very heavy though so not worth much in terms of its weight in gold. Now just need to find a huge envelope from "Cash my Aluminium Step".

Our two-ring electric hob which came from an Argos half price sale, and cost £14.99. We caravan in France, always have an electric hook-up, and use it outside under the sun canopy to do all our cooking. It keeps cooking smells out of the van, stops me getting overheated when I'm cooking, and also the lovely smells cause people to stop and chat.
Our second best-buy was a portable fridge, which we also keep outside - and which keeps all our drinks cold - there was never enough room in the caravan fridge for bottles as well as food!

Caravan wise ...... a £99 I.5 cu ft tabletop freezer and a 1kw radiant electric ring.
The freezer can cool drinks or food before use or storing in main caravan fridge as well as its obvious use.
The electric ring can grill and/or heat a pan/kettle and also serves us well on low voltage EHUs.

Overall............... must be my Garmin Sat Nav.
I never get lost and always know and have forewarning of my next driving manoeuvre.
This ability has cost the American Military Trillions of dollars in infrastructure and ongoing running and maintenance costs.
I paid just £150
