Well, we have now agreed the purchase on a full size awning which we pick up this weekend - and, having bent every peg in our bag erecting our porch on a (very)hardstanding last weekend we figure it is time to invest in something a bit more robust!

So what is everyone's reommendation? How do you get along with the "screw" pegs? - are they worth the money?

We really want something that will see us through all possible scenarios - hardstanding, mud,forest floor etc etc and that will equally suit our caravanstore (fiamma), porch (isabella minor) and full awning (isabella opus) set ups .... not asking too much are we LOL???

I've used screwpegs for about the last 3 or 4 years and find them really good in soft or hard ground conditions. I bought the "real" ones but apparently you can use some similar ones from the likes of Screwfix which are much cheaper. I always find these things out too late!

I have recently read of Delta pegs on another forum which appear highly recommended by campers. I hadn't heard of these before and have no personal knowledge of them but you will find more info here:

Thanks Rob - I can't find the ones on screwfix - maybe they discontinued them? Will continue my research but screwpegs or megascrews are looking like the front runners.

I found that 8" coach screws at B&Q were cheaper than Screwfix. A large washer or an upside down wing nut slid up the screw makes a good fixing far the guy or rubber ladder.

The adapter for the battery drill i picked up at a street market tool stall.
 
Steel rock pegs on hard standing or grass, bang em in with a claw hammer..pull em out with claw hammer.

Interested to read this post as I have been contemplating looking at screw pegs.

The ones usually supplied with awnings are a waste of time on hardstandings. I have built up a good collection of solid round steel pegs with the plastic head. Work well in the main but I am finding it increasingly hard work on my back as they require a lot of effort to get into hardstandings (and sometimes I have to admit after much furious hammering can be just pulled out by hand)

Thought screw type with a the aid of a cordless drill may be the answer. Do they work?

Yes they do work, give a very strong grip. Sometimes on very hardstanding I have resorted to giving them a "start" with a couple of thumps from a hammer, but in the main a lot easier to put in and take back out.

Yep l agree le croc as long as you have good aim, ex engineer of 40 years with lots of hammer rash, get my drift.
