Best Place for Jack and Stands

Hi All

As my van is now six years old I have decided to get the tyres changed. This from a safety point as thy are by no means worn out yet. I have a large garage type trolley jack and axle stands.

Question is where to put them. Does one jack it on chassis and put stands under the axle or vice-versa or none of these?

Thanks in advance

Either of your suggestions sounds OK but I would suggest that given that the caravan's weight will be on the stands (while you go to get replacement tyres) it would be better to place your trolley jack under the chassis near to and behind the axle and support the caravan by placing axle stand beneath the actual near to the wheel which is to be removed.

I would also suggest that this should be done one side at a time because you can firmly chock the wheel that remains on the ground.

PS pleased to hear that you are taking advise and replacing your tyres at 6 years old.

SORRY I MISSED THE WORD AXLE FROM THE PREVIOUS ANSWER

Martyn,

I might be teaching granny to suck eggs, But make sure the van is hooked up to your/a car before you jack it up, and then still chock the wheel on the ground.

good luck Tony A.
