Best source for finding and screening camp sites

Hi - we are just about to take delivery of our first caravan, and we are looking for either a seasonal pitch, or a storage option for when we are not using the caravan. We are also researching places that we might want to visit in the first months.

We looked at a copule of pitches already - at one site they only had small pitches left with no room for awning, and another was really nice, but it's a tranquil site with no kids allowed (even visiting) and seems to be very quiet. We don't want party central but we are wondering if this place will be even too quiet / no atmosphere.

To add to the complication, we are in the process of selling our house, and have not found a new one to buy yet, so we are considering getting a seasonal pitch in Cheshire or in North East Wales which is roughly our search area for a new house as well.

I have been using sites like Pitchup to search for camp sites, but I now realised that it's far not compreshensive.

I have also been looking at "The Camping Directory". This seems to have a lot of sites that are not mentioned in Pitchup, but with less filtering options.

I would appreciate any advice on what is the most comprehensive source of all local campsites in an area (preferably with a flag to indicate whether they do seasonal pitches but not totally essential).

Also - what is your opinion in whether it's worth joining the CAMC or the other one (CACC?)? The latter seems to do seasonal pitches, but there is a brochure on their website that kind of implies you can only even request availability, if you are already a member.

Do sites often offer negotiate additional discounts if you want to stay for a significant time, but not the whole year (e.g. for a month or so)?

I'm guessing that once we have visited a good few sites when touring, we will find out such things by word of mouth, but as beginners we are a bit stuck.

That's really an impossible question to answer as what one person considers acceptable another will find it unacceptable.
Many sites will offer a reduced rate for long stays. Seasonal pitches tend to be for many months at a time, and require full payment in advance with no refund if you leave early (Which if house hunting could easily happen)
In your situation I think I would be looking for a site close to shops etc, not liable to flood (very important these days) with hard standing rather than grass and a "serviced" pitch so you don't have to keep fetching water and emptying waste water. You will of course have to empty your toilet cassette.
If planning on any length of stay I would suggest a (poled) awning should be very near the top of your shopping list to extend your "living" space.
