Best way to St David's

I will be travelling from the Manchester area to the CC site at St David's in Pembrokeshire. The route using the M6/M5/M50/M4, etc seems to be an awful long way round. Has anyone any experience of towing using the roads across to Bangor and then down the West coast of Wales? Any advice would be welcome.

We visited this site in 2002 having spent a few days at the CC Chester Fairoaks site so we travelled down the west of Wales. The roads were good but not very suitable for fast driving. We thought the M4 etc route looked better so we took that on our way back to Scotland but it was very busy and not really any quicker. The other route was quite scenic and if we went back to St David's we'd use that way again. Hope this helps.

Forgot to say the site was good but very open. The Cathedral was definitely worth a visit.

Use the A494 from Mold to Dolgellau - it's scenic but we've towed it the opposite direction without any trouble - even the cars involved with a major car rally didn't cause us any holf up.

I would go Chester, Wrexham, Newtown, across to Aberystwyth then down the coast.

Nice scenic run, and probably about 80 miles shorter than the motorway (and a lot less boring).

Thanks Angus. Have you actually towed this route? Is it OK?
