Just bought our first twin-wheel caravan, and would like opinions on the best wheel clamp available from you all.

This is not for main caravan storage, as we have a 24 hour fully secured site for this, but more for when we are touring and it is on site during the daytimes when we may be out and about.

Van is an Elddis Avante 6 berth twin wheel.

Advice appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi, we purchased a Milenco concrete filled wheel clamp. It is sold secure , so gave us some confidence. It is a little tricky to locate the lock but after about 6 times of fitting it we are getting the hang of it. Quite heavy to lug about and we use it on a single axle.

Hi Keith,

I use one of these http://www.towsure.com/product/13026-Nemesis_Wheel_Clamp_-_Gold_Sold_Secure al be it on a single axle van, it is fairly heavy.

Hi Keith,

You can listen to all the advice in the world & get well confussed. Log onto the sold secure site & buy one that has been awarded GOLD rating at least.

I tried the Nemesis but it would not fit my van as I have a motor mover on one side of the axle & shocks on the other, so had to revert back to my trusty Bulldog Titton.

I don't wish to be a 'downer' but according to many test reports, virtually all the clamps currently available, apart from the concrete Milenco one, are easy play for thieves to remove.

Yes, I do fit a clamp when the van is in store, but I recognise it is more for cosmetic effect, and to keep the insurers happy more than anything else. When touring I usually don't bother. I just fit the hitchlock. If I am on a secure?? site then I reckon that if someone is going to come in specifically choose, and hitch up my van, then there is not a lot I can do about it. Plus the thing takes up a lot of space in the boot.

With Refence to Scotch Lad.........

Whilst I agree with your view that if the thieves have their eye on your van there may not be much you can do.. you perhaps need to check your insurance cover. It may be that your insurance is only valid if you have a hitchlock AND a wheel clamp. It would be a shame if you couldn't collect following a theft!!
