Bike security on site

Could anybody give any advice on what they have found to be the best way to make bikes secure at night on site? I have seen some people fasten a chain around the stabaliser hitch and others the frame of the van. We travel with the bikes on lockable thule roof carriers, would these be secure enough or not?

Lee,

I have a 3m Bike Lock and chain all four bikes against a tree if possible, you could lock them against the Hitch or corner steadies if you wanted.

As for the lockable Thule Roof Carriers, I have these too, but it is a pain to have to put them all back on the roof every time you have finished using them,

best regards, Martin

We use the Thule roof system also for our bikes, which are full suspension and worth a bit.The problem with our car is that it is possible to remove the crossbars complete with locked bikes if you know how,so whenever we leave the bikes on the roof we wrap round a cable with lock which passes through the frames and also around the roof rails, effectively locking the bikes in their carriers to the car.

Inside our awning we use a three cycle aluminium stand we bought off Halfords for

Yes BUT litespeed if your bikes cost that amount of money you dont have to give them away. Just buy a very good padlock and chain any thing that slows them up.
