We have stayed overnight at the Port a few times and it works well. The last time was in November this year. Whichever lane you choose, inevitably you will have to change lanes in the morning. A tip is not to park next to a lorry because when cold they keep running their engines at night. Make sure you have some drinking water before you arrive to make tea etc and it is quite nice to have a walk around the local town in the evening. The booking office opens at 8am and it is a good idea to get your boarding cards etc then. All you need is the booking reference and passport. Loading starts at about 11am.
