BILBAO TO THE MED

Seeking advice on the journey from Bilbao ferry to the coast around Barcelona. Any suggested overnight stops on or near the A68/A2? Also, are coastal sites between Barcelona and Valencia likely to need pre-booking in May/June?

I travelled down the coast road from the French border to La Manga in 2004 and had no trouble finding "coastal" sites to overnight on the journey down in May and returning in June. Can't help with the route from Bilbao to Barcelona though!

hi grant, i posted the same question a few months ago there are plenty of site Barcelona and Valencia alon the coast refer to the Caravan Club guide europe 1.Iwould not bother pre booking may/june its low season. On the A68 ther's a site camping de Haro just off the motorway which is th one we shall be using on our return trip (early may),we leave next week on the pride of Bilbao. happy vanning regards peter

Hi,

We travelled from Bilbao to Girona a few years ago and it took around 8.5 hours. It is dual carriageway all the way and is a good road with plenty service stations and rest areas. The scenery in the northern section of the journey is straight out of a John Wayne movie! The ferry used to get in around 7am which leaves you all day to get across to the Med after having a good nights sleep onboard. The only problem is the Bay of Biscay can get a bit rough now and again - take your seasick tablets. Hope you have a good trip.
