Well....Is there a correct answer or just personal preference. Personally I have no hard and fast rule, just what I fancy on the day.
Blinds Up or Down whilst towing?

Like most things, personal preference plays a big part. We like to have the blinds up, as our caravan has a rear window and we get a decent view of the road behind through the 'van. It has also sometimes been useful to be able to see what is happening in the 'van while on the road - if, for instance, a cupboard door has come open!
We always travel with the blinds in the up position.
There is always a tendancy to dazzle motorists in the oncoming lane if the blinds are down, particularly in the sunny weather we are having at the moment.

With front and rear blinds up we get a good view through the van.
Tho the side ones arnt as much use they do help to see whats going on when making sharp turns.

I always tow with the blinds up. Whilst I havent got through vision (solid rear panel on the van), I can see inside the van and if the wardrobe or any cupboard doors come open I can see them and stop.
My personnal preference is to keep the blinds up when on the move, as they can under certain circumstances roll up uncontrolled. You will hear them if they do, believe me, and you will often find that the damage to the blind springs can cost you!
In my opinion not worth leaving blinds down for any lenght of time as the springs weaken.

well this is interesting. In summer I keep them down when towing, purely to stop the heat build up inside the van. However I had not considered that keeping them down places additional strain on the blind rollers. Mmm food for thought; thanks ! Good question.

On our old Elddis we always kept them up - until one day it was so hot inside when we arrived at a Site we could not enter the van.
Thereafter if it looked like being a sunny day we had the centre front and the back window blinds up for through vision and the others down - the difference in temp was incredible.
Now with our new Abbey we do not have through vision - still tend to keep the centre front up and all the others down [ we do have a reversing camera ]
We normally have the blinds across the roof lights too - that really helps

Well we always had owe blinds up as I was told it was a agents the law to have them down when tow but I bet there will be some one on here who will you are wrong but I got told the same thing when I went on a towing curse by the C&CC where they told me it was a against the law to tow with the blinds down.

I tow with them up (that's closed, as must of them need pulling up to block out the light as opposed to the normal down to close), the reason being, if we need to stop en-route I don't need to get in the van to close them each time to keep out prying eyes. So for security, we close them. I am also thinking about getting a blind for the rear of the car when travelling with our dog. Not to keep him cool or to stop him barking but for the benefit of those that are following behind. We have a male Ridgeback with one of the biggest set or cream crackers I ever saw, he also sleeps standing up in the car with his head on the back seat and his rear in the back window. Although it saves me having to buy a novelty "Nodding Dog", it can't be too pleasant a view for other motorists.........
I don't quite understand why it should be against the law to have the blinds down because if you tow a horsebox, for example, your view through the trailer is just as blocked as in the case of a caravan with the blinds down. It doesn't make sense to me.
we have them up. we drive a 4x4 so hubby can see right out the back bathroom window with the blinds up.
isnt it weird - most responses are on here are UP, I commute on the M5 to exeter airport every day and see thousands of vans and everyone I see has its blinds down! 
can't help feeling that we are having a difference between up and down - perhaps it should have been something like the blinds closed - ie stopping light getting in.
