can anyone help we have just bought our caravan its an abbey spectrum520 a 1997 we have a problem with the blow air system when trying to run it on electric only it makes a terrible screeching sound after about 2mins after switch on .we can't use the gas space heating as there is a problem with a yellow flame and we been told its dangerous. but could still use the electric blow air fan heating .it does say any way in the hand book that came with van that you use one or other not both .so we opted for blow air fan until we can get fire looked at .its a carver3600stc by the way. what are we doing wrong??any advice be very much appreciated

If you bought it from a dealer, they're effectively responsible for any faults found in the first 6 months (unless they can show that wasn't faulty when you bought it) so call them and try to get them to fix it..

If you can access the back of the heater, it should be possible to remove the fan and clean it - they're prone to getting clogged with "fluff" which reduces the airflow and eventually stops the fan - this may be causing the noise.

many thanks for your reply sadly we didn't buy from a dealer but will give your suggestion a try as the fan is at bottom of wardrobe under a wooden removable cover .many thanks

Definitely worth getting a service with a damp test too. Always easier to get anything needed fixed at home rather than if you were away in it. Also check the date on the tyres as regardless of use they should be replaced ideally after 5 years.

It does sound as if the caravan is in desperate need of a service. Cost of servcie for peace of mind is about $150-£160. You can and AWS technician near you using https://www.approvedworkshops.co.uk/find-approved-workshop
yes it could do with having a service check which we intend to sort ASAP as its not a new van but still needs some tlc as we all do when we get to a certain age plus definitely for safety reasons it just a shame it not been maintained properly in past many thanks for your help will check it out .
