Andrew Im not the best qualified person on here but at least If I answer the techhies will follow on.

Fistly you must leave your heating on until the element gets warm or even hot before you can think of putting the blower on probably about half to an hour and then tun the blow air on . Some suggest depending on what heating system you have in your van to start the heater up both gas and electric once warm turn the gas off and run on electric , I have to say it works on our van

Good Luck and a Happy New Year

Hi Andrew,

I've got an '09 California and my system doesn't allow use of electric & gas at the same time. You get a higher output on gas though.

Andrew, can you explain a little more precisely what you mean?

Is the heater working on gas and /or electric?

What part of the warm air is causing you problems?

The more info you can give will determine the answer.

Don't know about the 2009 Carolina but on my 2010 California you can run gas and electric together. Just switch on the electric and set the thermostat on the wall. Then turning the gas temperature knob up and pressing in until the clicking stops. The gas should ignite and then hold it in for another 5 secs or so. When you release the gas should stay running. If not then turn off the gas knob back to zero, wait 2 mins and try again.

The gas is quite powerful compared to electric but we only run electric at night and it is quite good enough. We use the gas for a quick blast or to warm up from scratch.

Remember, my California may not be the same as your system.

On my 09 Pageant Bretagne you can run on gas & electric together. A sensor turns off the electric elements before they overheat. This is clearly stated in the handbook.

On electric only the best bet it to put it on 2kw, select max temp on the thermostat dial & put the blow air on A for auto & the speed control on 2. The auto setting will not let the blow fan operate until the fire is hot enough to cope with it.

I was away over new year in temps below freezing & the van was plenty warm enough on electric only using the above settings.

Hi Andrew

Had the same problem with our first winter trip in our Burgundy, but after talking to salesman and genning up with manual found it best on gas and electric as stated.

You'll find 2 is the highest you should set the fan to on auto with the electric.

With gas according to the blurb setting 4 gives about 70deg,

we've done this with our Burgundy and recently with a Pegasus but use mark 2.5-3 and find it's fine for us.

While we're out of the van or over night while it's really cold we leave it ticking over on the electric heating.

You'll find the best setting for yourselves by adjusting to suit.

As the salesman told us the difference between gas and electric really marked.

Best regards

Tom

damian, as i have the caravan on the drive, i was looking to put steady heat into it whilst the cold snap was with us. i turned the dial to no;4 and set the power on 2kw. the knob on the top left of the fire was set to 1 and switched to the left of the three settings. i was expecting sufficient warm air blowing from the vents but was left dissapointed. what am i doing wrong.

thanx,
