Blown Air Heating Help

Hi,

I have an '88 Bessecar Cameo which has a carver 1800btu gas fire but no blown air. Someone told me that if I fitted a FanMaster kit then I could pipe up my van for blown air heating. These kits are out of production so i was after either a used kit or other alternative if anyone knows of one.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Trev

Gary is the one who will know and probably have the parts.

Have you thought of the Carver junior kit which comprises a blown air fan etc.

The fanmaster give the use of 230V as well but is more expensive

Hello peeps

Being a very 'up market' caravan I would think this should be an 1800SBE which is otherwise known as a 'Caravelle' and uses a control switch on the wall. I would also have expected it to already be equipped with blown air? strange.

If it is the SBE then there is no trouble fitting a Carver Mk1 Fanmaster on the back as the fire is fully enclosed to the cabinetry around it. Some other models of the 1800 series were 'free standing' and needed an extension tube to join the two and make use of blown air for gas heating, these are no longer available. Having said that I have never seen one but I think one could quite easily be made.

Fanmasters are like 'Hens teeth' and I am not sure I should say this on here however I have at least one Fanmaster if you are interested

Further to Gary's advice, just a point about the size of heater. The 1800 models only produce about 1.6kw of heat and the addition of blown air may show up its limited ability to heat the whole van. The Fanmaster does allow you to add the 2Kw of electrical heat which I think you would find usefull, but obviously you need to be on a pitch with mains electricity to benefit.(ps the fan motor is 12Vdc so you can use it without mains)

I just really need to get some heat down to the far end of the 'van as that is where my daughter sleeps and she gets cold in the night and wakes up as a result.

I have thought of upgrading the heater too but the mine has a floor exhaust and not a chimney which I have been told the bigger heaters need.

Watson (John G), Any idea where I could get one of these as I thought all Carver units were now unavailable?

Trevor you asked where you could get the blown air kit but Gary is the man for the job.

I have a Junior blower and switch among the souvenirs but the Fanmaster would be a better bet as JohnL so rightly says .

A good point John makes about the 1800's heat output but it rather depends on which model you have of nine!

I made a guess at this one being the 'Caravelle' SBE1800,(correct as it turns out), which has three different outputs depending on how big the van is and therefore which jet bar is fitted. In general though as John says the output is between 1.6 and 2kw and this would limit the fanmasters abilities while using it on gas.

On electric the mk1 Fanmaster will give 1850w on full (auto) but half that on slow fan which for quiet running is the setting I found I used most, however it will not work on mains electric in conjuction with the gas fire as the electric heating soon switches off.

we found one on ebay, and paid a local fitter from a caravan dealer to fit it, ours was a fanmaster which bolted straight on to the pre drilled holes in our Bessacarr Capri 500/5 in a '93 van, now we are toasty warm ! He also fitted an awning outlet for us !!

forgot to add that he also recommended checking your local caravan workshops for scrapped vans which are sometimes stripped for spares, or specialist caravan breakers, Owain.
