Booking ahead for touring?

We book for the year in January working out to miss when regular quarterly or 6 monthly hospital appointments should be about due.. Two years ago though we were away and wife had a call from Milton Keynes Hospital that a cancellation had been made and she could have her second Knee replacement the next day . Said we we away for another 10 days and given the date we would be home. After home for 4 days had another call and she went in for OP the next day.

Milton Keynes Hospital have always been fantastic for us. But for some reason they cannot do Carpal Tunnel operation on my hand, so I have to go to Bedford Hospital.

NHS Trusts with more than one hospital in the group tend to focus each specialisation on a particular location - I presume this is more efficient.
