We book for the year in January working out to miss when regular quarterly or 6 monthly hospital appointments should be about due.. Two years ago though we were away and wife had a call from Milton Keynes Hospital that a cancellation had been made and she could have her second Knee replacement the next day . Said we we away for another 10 days and given the date we would be home. After home for 4 days had another call and she went in for OP the next day.

NHS Trusts with more than one hospital in the group tend to focus each specialisation on a particular location - I presume this is more efficient.
