BP gaslite adaptor

Help! I am at present caravanning in Spain. I have a 10kg BP Gaslite bottle with a Truma 90 degree elbow adaptor connecting to my installed regulator via a high pressure hose. Whilst in Spain I use local gas via another connection on my system. I reconnected the adaptor to the BP bottle and although the adaptor 'clicks' in place I cannot turn the 'on/off' valve on the adaptor. I need the BP gas for the journey home in a couple of weeks. Has anybody had this problem before or am I doing something wrong?

I read with interest the Forum thread dated 19 Feb. My Dutch neighbour here has the same BP Gaslite bottle but it has a screw connection - why do we have to be different in UK?

Thanks in advance for advice on my adaptor problem.

If you have already used the adaptor and removed it to use the alternative gas supply there is no reason it should not work.

The problem has to be with you either fitting it or storing it after you removed it. The could be some crap built up stopping the valve turning or something physical making it stick. The valve should turn into the fully on position even when it is not fitted to the bottle. Make sure this is happening..... If that works then the pressure valve in the bottle has become stuck or the adaptor has not seated fully. I would make sure it has not just clicked into place by feeling for free movement which will mean it has not fully locked down onto the bottle.

If all the above are OK and the valve works off the bottle and it is fully seated then check the top of the bottle and just keep trying to turn the valve as it may become unstuck with a bit of work. It can only be a couple of things so just look at each thing and use some common sense if it looks like it is stuck.

Thanks for the advice, Rich. I actually only took the adaptor off to see how much gas I used on the way here by weighing the Gas Light bottle. I then replaced the adaptor - that's when I couldn't get it to work. It still does not work. I can see the plastic plunger in the adaptor and it moves about 1mm, the valve lever moving about 30 degrees from horizontal and then stops. I give up! I'll just take my Spanish gas home again. Any more ideas?
