Brittania Breakdown insurance

I've just come across a strange limitation on breakdown insurance with LV. I was checking the maximum length of caravan covered so the agent read out the appropriate paragraph from the policy wording. The limit was 8 metres and they would not come out if you were less than half a mile from home which was OK, but then she added the caravan must be stored at the home address. I pointed out that many people didn't store caravans at home but of course it was no use trying to discuss this with her as she doesn't write the rules and had obviously never considered what people do with caravans when they are not using them. Has anybody any idea why they would invoke such a limitation?
Anyway, yet another trap to watch out for when purchasing cover.

I think the problem is that the people who write the policies have no idea of the realties of caravanning. The only realy good policies seem to be the ones promoted by the two clubs which give far better cover than anything I am aware of in the rest of the market because they understand what we need.

Britania require you or a member of your household to be the owner of the caravan or trailer and whoever is the owner must live at the address they have on their records.
The caravan or trailer does not have to be normally stored at this address.

Regulation C6 of their Policy Document states...........

Caravan and Trailers... Your cover includes any caravan or trailer that is attached to your vehicle ( this does not include help at the address that we have on our records or within half a mile of that address or the location at which your caravan or trailer is normally stored).
Caravans and trailers should not be more than 8 meters in length (including A frame) and fitted with a standard 50mm ball coupling.
We will only cover vehicles over these limits if we have specifically agreed this with you before your cover began.
If appropriate you must always carry a legal and serviceable spare wheel.

Gafferbill,
I didn't want to make my original post too long so left out some of the details but yes... I saw C6, however in section B it says :-

"Vehicles and any caravan or trailer that is attached to your vehicle must be

registered as owned by you, or a member of your household, and be kept
at your home address as shown on our records."

SO thats why I phoned to clarify the situation and they confirmed that the van must be stored at the home address. Now I suspect that might not be their intention, but faced with both written and verbal assurances about this I decided not to argue, there are plently more companies available who do understand caravanning so I've gone with the caravan club.
Forest, I can only suggest you check with them...

Apologies if this is not formatted right, there seems to be a few issues with the editor.

I cannot understand why they should insist that your caravan is stored at home? Our ADAC Breakdown Cover is taken out to cover my husband and I which covers any car we are driving or travelling in, owner or not. This also covers the Caravan, up to 10 metre's long attached or un-attached from the ca. All for 98 Euro's per year in UK and all of Europe..

This seems to be a problem caused by a company that does not undestand the market. There is a small additional cost if the caravan has to be towed to a storage site and the car to the home address but I would doubt it should make any real difference to the schemes profitability and if it did they could add anothe £10 or so to the premium. The specialist providers seem to be the best bet in this market.
