Brown/gray film bits in water pipes

Hi,

We are having a problem with our water pipes following the winter. I thought I had drained down the system properly but I now guess I didn't. We have run 'milton' through the system and now have bits of what looks like a brown gray thin film which I am guessing has grown on the inside of the pipes during the winter. We only bought the van last August second hand (2000) from a dealer and went straight out and used the van without running 'milton', and had no problem at all. The water was fine and tasted good. So far I have flushed it with Milton 3 times and followed that with about 6 aquarolls of clean water. Still the bits keep coming.

Do you have any idea how I might get rid of the bits and get our system back to being clean. I have seen a product called 'Chemdirect', is that any good?

You havent got a water filter thats breaking up have you,like all the charcoal all coming out of it because of its age,Had a similer problem and filled the water tank up for a few days,heated it up as hot as i could and then drained,done that a few times,and then put water into the aquaroll as hot as i could and put this through the system,and it worked for me.Have a go and good luck,

Thanks but the filter isn't the problem. I used an empty one. It seems to like a film that is now coming away from the inside of the pipes. Maybe with the draining it has dried and is now flaking off. I need to get it out as it is making the water unusable.

We use a product called Kemdirect and I was convinced that it would help you but wished to make sure from the biochemist Hans in Holland whose products they are.

Of course he can clean the piping with Kemdirect tank cleaner / descaler. The bits and pieces this consumer sees are dead biofim parts. The advantage of Kemdirect over Milton (chlorine) is that Kemdirect also removes lime scale in which bacteria can survive. It is also much safer for all materials.

Hi Bob have a look in yellow pages for a home brew shop ,or a Boots Chemist that sells home brew gear , as ask them for a cleaner called Chempro ,fill your system up with water diluted with chempro and leave overnight ,and flush through the next day ,this stuff is made for sterilising & cleaning home brew equipment & will neutralise any yeast moulds in the system
 
Hi, I read your posting with interest as I also have the brown deposits coming through my fresh water pipes, and in particular the cold pipes. Can you advise me where you purchase your Kemdirect Descaler / Tank & Pipe Cleaner?

I have used `Puriclean` for years and have never had any problems.
