We stayed here in late April of this year. Its about 7kms from the centre of Brugge so a short drive or you can catch the bus from outside the church in the village, about a 10 minute walk from the site. >A HREF="http://www.davidklyne.plus.com/camping_and_recreatiepark_klein.htm">Klein Strand There is also a camping Memling which is a little nearer but I have not stayed there.

Hi Lawrence,

I agree with David - Camping Memling and Camping Klein Strand are the two campsites close by Brugge that are worth visiting. Klein Strand if you need to entertain trouser tuggers, Memling if there's just the two of you.

A bit further away is Camping Blaarmeersen (Gent) - about 30 minutes by motorway - probably the best campsite in Belgium. And Gent is also worth visiting - the centre is even better than Brugge

Good choice - the beer is fantastic - the food is as good or better than Northern France - and you'll get better value eating away from the central square (Markt)

Indeed if you don't mind a 5km drive - I'd recommend eating in the town of Damme (North East of Brugge) - loads of good value restaurants - I usually eat there on my commute home from Rotterdam

Some years ago we went to Brugge for a couple of days without the van and stayed in a hotel very near the Belfry. We were recommended a restaurant called (in English) The Copper Kettle. When we went back this time it looks as if its been taken over by some up and coming Chef. Even had photos of the Belgium Royal Family visiting the restaurant! Clearly we could not afford it now!

David,

De Koperen Ketel ?

Hmmm - I prefer the restaurants away from city centre - we're having a weekend in Brugge in a couple of weeks - staying in a family run hotel near Damme - and eating in local restaurants.

Camping Memling is about 40 mins walk from Brugge center and is a nice site. Supermarkets (3 or 4) about 400 yds away , and a chippie up the road. Free internet access on their PC or free wireless connection.

Avoid tea-rooms in the square we were charged 11 euro for 2 teas. (I gave a 2 cent tip and the waiter muttered " oh 2 cents" so I replied that they were taking the p*** with their prices -- so I was taking the p*** with the tip)
