Hi All,

My friend as a Buccaneer Crusier…I think a 2017 model. However the water pump continues pumping , even when not in use. Any ideas please?

Thanks

The pump will either be controlled by a microswitch fitted in each tap, or by a pressure switch. Some pressure switches are a separate component and some are built into the pump, if its a microswitched system it means that either a tap is is still calling for water (Common situation with some showers where a mixer which has the microswitches tap is used as well as a trigger on the shower head to stop the water flow. It could be one of the taps is not fully turning off, or a microswitch has failed and needs replacing.

If its a pressure switched system, anything in the system that leaks water can reduce the pressure in the pipe work which causes the pressure switch to activate. Also if the water level in the tank is too low the pump may be drawing air rather than water.

If the pump is running intermittently that usually means there is a leak which is dropping the pressure in the pipe work, so the switch activates and runs to pump to restore the pressure. In some systems the leak can be a non rerurn valve which is not locking off properly, and its allowing the high pressure to to leak back through the pipe work to the water tank, so you won't see any leaking water.

If the pump runs continuously (without interruptions) that suggests the pressure in the system is not getting high enough to cause the pressure switch to turn off. That could be low voltage, or a faulty pressure switch or pump.

On the Buccaneer avoid messing about with the pressure switch. It is a Whale pump and may need to be calibrated at the rear of the water inlet into the caravan. Again this is a last resort if you are satisfied there are no leaks and the onboard tank under the bed is full. In the 7.8 years we had our Buccaneer we never found the need to calibrate the water pump. The pressure switch is located by the onboard tank.

Make sure that the tap to the onboard tank is closed off. Also make sure that the tap for the hot water cylinder is closed off otherwise the water will drain underneath the caravan and the pump will continue running.

On the Buccaneer if the water in the onboard tank runs out, the system automatically switches to the aquaroll or mains water. If the aquaroll runs dry, the water pump system will automatically switch off after a couple of minutes.

On you on mains water or using an aquaroll? If aquaroll the system needs to be switched to ext which then fills up the onboard tank. Same with mains.

I had a Buccaneer Corsair and now an Elddis Crusader Shamal. Both have on-board water tanks and that's very convenient. If the pump runs continuously you have to adjust the control switch, located by the tank, using the knurled cap at the top of the switch. Your manual should explain the procedure. It's Whale system and you can phone them in NI and they are very helpful.
