When we went away 11 Dec someone tried to breakin the house..

they damaged the patio door in the process, another call to the insurance..who came out???

Homeserve, who deal with utility emergencies. I walked out the kitchen and left poor hubby on his own. This man who came knew nothing about double glazing.. He drew pictures and measured 1, the replace the existing door and 2 for us to change to a different door.

The twits phoned today, if we change the door we have to pay them £900 for not knowing what might be fitted, who the new door comes from, who fits them.

Hubbies hopping mad. He has never been religious (cryptic) and puffs when walking up a gradient. But this won't stop him ringing the insurance company. 2 years ago we had a large flood in the lounge, they took a cutting of the carpet from a discreet corner to take away to price the carpet. Anyone else made claims and how was yours handled???

Hi Smiley

This is ridiculous.

Subject to seeing the small print of your policy wording I am fairly certain Homeserve have it wrong. I spent 38 years dealing with all levels of insurance claims.

I am happy for you to speak with me. I'll ask his Mods to send you my e-mail address and you can send me you phone number.

Once I know the policy wording is on a full reinstatement basis I am certain one quick phone call to a competent person at the Insurer will resolve your problem.

Cheers

Alan

Regarding insurance claims, couple of years ago i spilled coffee onto our White shag pilled carpet. Rep came and took sample from corner and letter came back they would replace .Few weeks later in the kitchen my Wife placed a plate on the electric hob which was still hot from cooking although it was off, it " exploded" onto the carpet ( kitchen type)and scorched it. Same guy came down and laughed at our despair and it was also replced without fuss. Our premium did not go up the following year.

Hi,

2 years ago whilst on holiday in our caravan we received a phone call from my daughter who was looking after the wife's fish tank.Unbeknown to her she ( or 1 of the grandkids )accidently knocked the airline and overnight the contents of a 48'x 32'x18'tank siphoned onto our living room carpet.the room is 23foot long by 11foot.The insurance company sent a bloke from the local Allied carpet shop, and they replaced the whole carpet without any fuss whatsoever.

There is hope.

Hi Smiley,

I also have a policy with the same company which covers any breakdowns to our shower. My wife is disabled and cannot get in or out of the bath, hence the reason for having shower maintenance insurance.

It broke down on Dec 21st and was reported to them the same day. No communications from them until Jan 3rd.

I didn't think this was acceptable service but they said it was due to the Xmas hols etc..

Not good enough in my book, therefore I have cancelled the policy with them. My local plumber sorted the shower out at a very competitive price. Lesson learnt.
