Bulb failure warning

I recently changed my 1991 ABI for a 1998/9 Fleetwood. I tow with a 1999 Range Rover. When I connect up to the Fleetwood the message centre on the Range Rover tells me that a rear brake light has failed-which on inspecting it has not. I never had this with the ABI. Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi Steve,

Does your new caravan have a third (high level) brake light and the old caravan didn't?

If yes - then it's almost certainly due to the extra power required to run the third brake light or to a resistance measuring issue with the car computer if the third brake light is a set of LED lamps.

The solution is to have the car 12N brake light feed taken by an isolation relay - from your description it sounds like the 12N feed was taken by just intercepting the feed to the lights (and that's just wrong).

Thans Rob,

Yes it has a high level brake light.

I will add a relay.

Many thanks
