burning smell from fridge vent

We have had our van for a year but have always ran the fridge from electricity. This weekend I decided to run the fridge from gas. It fired up ok but shortly afterwards there was a burning smell coming from the vent. I assumed this was just normal 'burning off' as the burner had not been used before. However, even when using electricity, there is still a faint burning smell coming from the vent. Is this normal? The van has just had its first service with no probs and the fridge works fine.

Thanks in advance

Ewan

Ewan, when the fridge is new, the vent pipe is painted black, it is this paint which is/has burnt off when using gas and is normal.

It may take some time for the smell to dissapear altogether, but it will.

If you used gas more frequently, it would eliminate the smell quicker.
