Butane to Propane

Hi...want to change from butane to propane, know that the regulator and hose has to be changed...but does anything need to be done with the already mounted regulator?...if that is a gas regulator of course...

Thanks,

Dave.

Dave, what on earth have you got connected to your cylinders?????????????

On pre 2004 vans you should only have a cylinder mounted regulator with a hose going to a spigot which is connected to the copper pipe into the van.

On 2004 onwards vans you should ONLY have a bulkhead mounted regulator, which has a pigtail directly from th eregulator to the cylinder with NO OTHER regulator in line.

If you have the second description, then a simple change of pigtail to a propane one is sufficient.

Please enlighten us to the age of the van, so that the correct configuration can be given

The van is a 2004 model and does have the bulkhead mounted regulator....never actuallyheard of this "pigtail" before..so the hose does'nt need changing either then?

Dave,

The Pigtail (Hose) must be changed, as although the fittings at the Bulkhead end are the same for both hoses, the cylinder end is different. Propane Pigtails have a Bullnose fitting, which has a Left Handed thread,

best regards, Martin

The pigtail mentioned is the hose & yes it needs to be changed from propane type to butane type to fit the different bottles, nothing else needs to be changed, the regulator is set to 30mbar for either gas whereas older regs used 28mbar for butane & 37mbar for propane.
