Buying second hand

Hi All

We are thinking about buying a second hand van and wondered if there was a book with price guides in, (like the Parkers guide for cars) Is it better to go to a dealership or risk buying privately?

I was going to ask the same at some point! There is lots of talk and info on new caravans, but unlike cars where you can find model history going back years, used caravans are difficult to find out about.

Things like dimensions, equipment etc are info I would love to be able to find out for caravans up to 12 years old at least!

I also wondered if there was anyone out there that would check second hand caravans over for us novices, after all the AA and RAC check out second hand cars for a fee. Is there a limit to the age of van that anyone would recomend? I have heard that a van is past it's best at 14 years plus? Perhaps there is a market out there for some of you that are old hands at caravaning to help us poor novices make the right choice!!
