It is possible that some one on here has a C4 Picasso, but I would go to a Citroen dealer & check what the unlaiden weight of the car is, then find out what its max train weight is (weight of car + trailer).

Some Citroen cars have a low towing weight.

The max tow for this car is 1500kg which(according to "what tow car" gives a 75% match withour van.I have read in the past that some people experience gearbox probs with automatics when towing and as this is a "semi auto" wether this would be the case.I am also interested to hear of its general performance when towing.Chris.

I believe the EGS is an automatic version of a manual 'box - as opposed to a conventional autobox. In other words it still contains a clutch etc, as opposed to a torque converter and valve block, and feels like a manual gear change when you drive it.

Therefore it shouldn't suffer the overheating problems that used to plague automatic gearboxes.

(I took one for a test drive but couldn't get on with it and bought a Ford Galaxy instead!)

We have recently bought a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso eclusive with EGS semi automatic. We tow an Elddis Odyssey 550 weghing in at 1347 kg MIRO. By keeping the weight in the van down to 1500 kg which is the max towing weight of the car we had a brilliant tow in that bad windy weather up to Wensleydale and back.

My wife is disabled with MD and we chose the car as a motability. We have attained 50 mpg with careful driving solo and 25-30 mpg towing.

EGS is good once you understand how to use it. It may seem jerky at first but like all autos you change gear with the accelarator.

hi there

we have the Exclusive version with the 2.0hdi semi automatic gearbox. The towing max is 1500kg, the early brochures state 1300kg which is a typo - Citroen will confirm in writing it is 1500kg if you ask (which we did). Train weight is 3600kg, car weighs about 1620kg depending on what extras you have. We tow an Abbey weighing in at 1490 MTPLM. it tows it absolutely fine and we average about 27mpg. I have towed in both manual and auto mode, I get a slightly better mpg in auto and it isnt bad at working out the correct gear apart from hills when you need to change down before the car wants to.

It's a great car, but personally I dont like the gearbox that much (it's the wife's car!). We have had the software upgraded as it was very jerky when changing gears and it is much better now. We have had problems reversing it on site, but that was human error by not moving the 'van forwards first then reversing (we're new to caravanning). It also has got stuck in a very soft field, but to be honest, any front wheel drive car would have.

Overall its a good car, very stable when towing and the auto levelling suspension is excellent. I would recommend it, however this is the first and only car I have towed with.

if you want any more info, let me know

cheers

Brian
