Hello Pete,
I'm sure someone will be along with some ownership views for you, but as an observation, unless the new C4 Grand Picasso has more power than the older model, then its unlikely to resolve your concern.

I can't be more specific as you don't tell us the exact models you are trying to compare, and what caravan you intend to tow.
When posting about cars its most helpfull to include
Make
Model & trim level
Body style (this can affect towing characteristics)
Year (different years can have different engine mods)
Fuel
Engine size
Power/bhp/kW (the same engine size can be supplied with differnt power outputs)
Mass In Service (kerbweight)
Max Towing Weight

And similar details are helpful for caravans.

Pete
we had one a couple of years ago with that engine. It was the Exclusive trim/model so had a flappy paddle gearbox which was fully automatic or manual using the paddles. The car towed our Abbey Expression 550 MTPLM of 1500kg with no problem averaging high 20's mpg (I do tend to have a heavy right foot mind you!). It was the wife's car and I never liked the gearbox even solo as it was too jerky. It towed ok but the rear suspension is very soft. Self-levelling was nice though. We now have a Sorento which unsurprisingly is a million times better at towing (we have upgraded the caravan as well)
The Citroen was reliable as well, no mechanical issues with it what so ever.
hope this helps
Brian
