We have just changed van to a newer one and it doesn’t have an exterior 230 volt socket for use in the awning what type of splitter is best the new van has a the whale right angle hook up point but I think a standard socket will fit any advice on what to avoid or what is good quality thanks 👍

Bailey have unfortunately done away with this and the gas barbecue point altogether on Phoenix models since 2021 to save probably £5 and be disappointing 👍

Be aware that some sites do not allow the use of a splitter on your supply cable (I know the Camping and Caravan Club have this rule across their sites) for safety reasons. We use one and have only once been asked to remove it

We definitely "should" not use splitters for awning supplies as then there is no protection from the van's RCD, the only protect then is if the bollard has a RCD. Compounding this the use in the awning presents way higher risks of earthing yourself or others. [electrocution]

This really needs doing "correctly" with the installation of a protected external outlet; really a job for a qualified individual.

RCD, residual current device, read here as also an earth leakage circuit breaker.
There are inline RCDs that instal in the EHU cable. LINK
