We have the older version with the seperate deflector plate and looking at it earlier today, I realised that we have only ever used the Skottel and the Paella Pan.

We use the Skottel for Thai curries and such, and breakfasts, burgers, and steaks, fish etc get done in the Paella pan. For years I have been carrying the deflector, reversible grill, fat pan, BBQ grid and pot stand and they are all completely brand new and unused. So much extra weight, or am I not using the Cadac to its fullest?

Take the burgers, the Paella pan is big enough for burgers all round AND the fried onions.

We have the hardback cadac cookbook which has far more recipes than that bundled with the Cadac, but the other day, I came across a link to Cadac recipes that you guys may enjoy. I cant take any credit for the work but here it is:

Thingy ,

We use all the bits on our cadac , we tend to put the grill bar on the flat plate so food don't stick to it , as you say , we use the big dish/lid for currys and chillis , but it always gets used and lives in the caravan . Love it .

Craig .

P.s , just looked at your link , "boozy nanas " sounds canni ! ;)

We have a pressed steel grill, not the chromed wire one, after a week away, a good wash and put it down for the dogs to lick clean. Whole Chickens in the Sckottle, , wonderfull bit of kit.
We don't BBQ , we CADAC.

Hi all, I've been thinking about a CADAC and we would only use it once a year when we go away for our August fortnight but we could use it at home (weather permitting) for the rest of the season. We have an external gas BBQ point on the van and a spare B&Q patio gas bottle at home which use to supply the last BBQ we had (now met its maker). Is the external gas point on the van the same fitting as the gas bottle at home ? The bottles on the van are calourlite , I presume they are compatible. Am looking at the chef 2. Not cheap, even used on ebay, but 1 item for 2 purposes may be an option.

I bought my first cadac when I was still using a tent so got the real small table top one but even that was great and cooked breakfast on it every morning as well as a bbq for me and her indoors regularly, when we moved onto a caravan I treated myself to the free standing one, dunno which model but came with shed loads of cooking surfaces, skottel, lid and a nice bag to stash it all in, much the same as others have said brekkie every morning pretty much regardless of the weather and bbq at least every other night, didn't mind cooking in van but it's nice not having the fat splashing all over the place and cooking smells are a thing of the past, I tried using the outside bbq point but binned that idea because your obviously restricted on where you place the cadac, not a good idea having too long gas hose so if like mine the van point is on side where awning go's it's awkward, at least with separate gas bottle you can move it around to get nice level spot and move as needed to have the wind coming at you where you want, other than that the cadac is the most used piece of equipment we have with us, oh and the mini one is still going strong being used by my daughter when she go's camping, must be 8 years old now.

They are already in the van, why carry extra weight?

Easy to answer.

Take a warm evening, the sun slowly setting in the distance. Add an easy chair and cold beer, feet up as the suasages sizzle away as the smell of fried onions drift lazily on the late summer breeze. Or the following evening, with Thingy wearing the lady pinny, the one with tassles in all the right places, expertly wokking the first ingredients of his Thai feast in the Skottel, and all the jealous people who normally cook in their grocklebox hanging around desperately wanting an invite to the developing feast. One eye hovering tantalizingly on the dew forming on the outside of the glass, the other swivvled at a rightangle towards the cadac, unable to refocus and align itself with eye number one. Oh the agony and expectation........................but I digress

WHY NOT B)

Spoilt Pig or the black farmer bacon from the supermarket or try a local butcher for some proper cured bacon that isn't bulked out with the fishy tasting white gunk.

I love the Cadac (carri chef 2), I have the barbecue griddle and chef's pan and to be honest we use the chefs pan for the majority of our cooking. One thing against is the lack of wood smokey smell, we trolled up to our last weekend away with the smell of instant barbecues being lit and that unmistakable smell of chicken fat splashing off hot coals, you don't get that with the Cadac but for the bacon butty of a morning you can beat it. And I cook outside all year round, I have a fishing brolly for the less clement weather patterns that hit our Isle.

Just 8 weeks before we go over to France for 6 weeks, just hope the Euro exchange rate gets better, otherwise it will be an expensive time. Especially around the Chablis area, for the first three weeks.

Another thing is the cadac toastie. two slices of bread with a slice of ham and slice of cheese andf chuck on until toasted on both sides. Easy snack knocked up in five minutes and our traditional packing up day breakfast.

Sounds a bit like Croque Monsieur.

Best tasting thing we have ever done on the Cadac is one from Cadacs own recipe book, the Thai Simmered Chicken in Green Curry. I usually do that with Jasmine rice.

Here's one to get you cadac boffins hearts racing!!!!

Every time I have been away this year and want to use the cadac it is peeving down with rain, no fishing brolly is going to protect me.
So what is to stop anyone ( I didnt say me  ) using it in the awning with some of the sides open????
It has a gas burner the same as the cooker in the van????
Might get some funny looks BBq in the awning BUT I'm not BBq ing .....I'm Cadacing!!!
And dont say just use the on board cooker as it is not the anserw I'm looking for. :)
I await the onslaught :(

No onslaught here Kev, done it many times, ventilation being the secret, (Ps wouldn't use my coal one in there though.) - A mark of success & ventilation efficiency is if the van fire alarm doesn't strike up!

I have cooked on gas inside a tent before so no reason to not use the Cadac so long as you are not too close to the sides.

The Elf of Safety, will go bonkers once folk start, getting back from work,
I had my Cadac outside, whilst wearing a Souwester, couldn't quite bring myself to take it into the awning, as there was alcohol, involved.
We always cook with wine, sometimes it goes in the food. !!

When we had a frame tent, in the days before the caravan, the kitchen was inside the tent and cooking was done there on Camping Gaz stoves.
