Cadac VS Beauclaire VS What Else?

Having just about worn out my old original Cadac Carri Chef, I am about to purchase another. We graduated to Cadac from the coal BBQs, and then my trusty old Beauclaire and thence the Carri Chef.

The Beuaclaire was a great piece of kit but a bit limited as to equipment. At the time you could only get a humongously heavy cast iron griddle or a large quite nasty Paella Pan. Eventually we moved to the Cadac for the greater range of surfaces. In theory a lighter build but heavier due to the extra equipment. I notice the Carri Chef 2 is somewhat lighter.

I got to wondering though what else is out here for us caravanners. I know quite a few folk with George Foreman Electric Grills/Griddles, but they are a bit one dimensional in how they cook. Anybody use or seen anything else of interest?

We use a Cadac Grillogaz which is just under 5 kg with the bbq plate and another 1.5 kg with the paella dish. Okay for 2-3 people.

Hello Thingy
When we were away last, our neighbour was using an Outback Trekker, very like a Cadac but less plates, with option of long or short legs, for table top use, price around £85 on line, also on Robert Dyas website, can't comment on the product, except to say his food smelled good when it was cooking.

We've got the cadac now for 5 or 6 years which lives in the caravan unless it comes home for a clean after a CL site , we also have an electric hot plate from B&M as an over spill just in case !

Cadac every time. It is so versatile. We even use it as an oven. The end result is amazing. Cooked shoulder and leg of lamb so plenty of surface area too.For the purist you can even add wood chips for smoky flavours. I was looking at the new ranges yesterday which haven't changed that much in 10 years other than they no longer come with a heat deflector directly above the burners. Anyone know why that is?

I have an Cadac, 10 year old, repair several times in a few ways, I like the look of the Outback Trekker as a replacment, the price is right. But 10.5 kg maybe that is with "all" the bits and plates.

According to the websites, its much heavier than that.

Their own website gives it at 17kg without cover and accessories.

The weight doesnt seem right to me though. Cant see what would make it so heavy.

Great timing as just about to make my first purchase.

Has anybody got a view on the Campingaz Party Grill?

They are all pretty much of a muchness, but I think the cadac is way out ahead of the gas burner tyre BBQs. I was wondering what was on offer with the electric ones.

I don't think you can burn food properly on an electric grill. :woohoo:

I've got a Cadac Carri chef, bought 2nd hand, had been used once, and we've never used it. I've tried to sell it twice but had no takers, so now I'm taking it to a rally next week to see if anyone wants the bl**dy thing!
It's just too big and heavy, and I have nowhere in either the caravan or camper van to store it.
Where do you folks carry yours when touring? I can't keep it in the towcar because we have a dog and a mobility scooter in there.

Our Cadac, Original, probably weighs 6 kg, without the extra plates, and I carry it on the left hand rear seat of the car, It sits on a peice of hardboard, strapped in by the seat belt. Next to that the awning, and on the other set maybe a cool box of food/ refreshments. :p .

Stick it on Ebay, as I said in the first post, Im selling my old one and buying a new lighter one. They are selling like hot cakes on their. Mine has currently had 513 views, 42 watchers, and fifteen bids, currently at £128.

I have the party grill 400 which has short legs and sits on a table and big enough for 2 people, The 600 is larger and has long legs

They come with a heat deflector, Pan stand, wire rack and smooth and ridged non stick griddle, the 400 part grill lid can also be used as a wok, the 600 lid can't as it has a temperature guage built into the lid.

There are 2 different types of party grill 400. One that uses a large gas cylinder and the 400cv which uses the small clip on cylinders.

Im very happy with mine.

Got to say,I've noticed a lot of people using an electric hot plate type grill in the awning for breakfast, maybe the future?as someone who doesn't usually have a cooked breakfast maybe I should go bonkers and try it.

I can’t comment on the other options, but we have a Cadac Carri Chef 2 and think it is amazing. Quite heavy, so it goes in the boot of the car when towing.
