We are going to Lake Garda late summer this year and am looking for advice on the best route to go and any idea of motorway & tunnel costs. We plan to stay at the campsite Weekend on Lake Garda. Anybody had any experience of this site in September. Any information appreciated.

Thankyou - Margaret

We will be at that site for a week in late august[22nd]although not towing!seems quite a busy place, do not know if its a newish site, although a couple of years back they had all new statics and bar the very high season, the prices were extremely good in comparison to other lake sites. seems to be set a few hundred meters from the lake, no bad thing really.

Routes, the most cost effective route, tolls distance. fuel, would be to head from Calais[if you haven't booked the crossing yet try Norfolkline[Dover Dunkirk] towards Luxembourg all dual carriageway/m/way, down to metz across to Strasbourg, [tolls] and then down to basle, and through to Italy above Milan.

There are variations you can do on this route but this would be possible the most suitable for towing, price, and time/distance

We have travelled down to Lake Garda/Venetian Coast for the last 3 yrs. I have twice travelled from Zeebrugge to Herbolzheim (Germany) near Strasbourg cutting across the corner of France for an overnight stop. Then down through Swizterland towards Milan and then onto the A4 towards Lake Garda and Venice.

Last Year for a change of scenery we travelled from Zeebrugge, staying overnight in the Black Forest, then down to Austria for a stop in Innsbruck before heading onto Venice.

Although the route through Germany/Austria is cheaper as far as tolls and vignettes are concerned I find the route through Swizterland an easier drive.
