Emmerson,

That does seem about right, I must admit to becoming interested in gases prices when I started to work in the industry a few months ago on a project. Unlike other parts of the gases industry there does seem to be a complete dominance by one supplier - which is good for them! - but not for us the punter. I can't remember the last time I saw someone with an Alto(Shell Gas ) container. I know in France there is more competition and the supermarkets are big retailers of gas. This is more to do with its use a source for heating/ cooking in some more rural homes.

I believe that prices can only rise - which will all be passed on to the punter. On my rather contentious post in the technical section I reckoned to have found a way of releasing myself from this cycle but fitting permanently a refillable tank to our van and that why I can determine which supplier I use and not have to lug a bottle to a from a shop.

Oh deary deary me MH - you do like your little digs do you not!

If you take the trouble to re-read what was ACTUALY said - the issue was refilling any stand alone cylinder - Kevlar/plastic/or steel because of the H&S issues of not having a qualified person to tell what is what.

My comments were aimed at the following:-

Over two years ago I bought 2 plastic (Kevlar?) cylinders from MTH Autogas and have been refilling them, 12 months a year, all round the country and have never had trouble. Mine are 5kg and cost

As for new caravaners, new forum members - if it stops them making the mistake of buying refillable cylinders I shall be well pleased.

The info I posted is pertinent to the safety of us all.

If you think that irrelevant! (verbose or otherwise) I WILL leave the last word to you, as you seem to need it.

Hi

Gas prices can only get worse still with the 22% hike from British Gas.This will affect all suppliers of gas and we will feel the hit.

BGAS are only a supplier and each supplier has the choice of whether to put their prices up or not. It would not surprise me if BGAS started advertising that if you registered with them nlow they will hold the price until 2010 or something like tnhat. If I were a BGAS customer I would certainly look at changing supplier.

Unfortunately in the gas industry there is only one distribution company which is Centrica and they have shares in BGAS.

We have had a wood burning stove fitted in our van to take advantage of all the lovely woodland sites we visit. There is always plenty of free fuel lying about the place. We have no need to moan about oil prices either ( who do we blame that oil is $70 per barrel.) as we are contemplating a 4x4...... Shire horse that is.

Thanks Nick. We contacted innergy but they only cover West Yorkshire. However when we told them where we live (Blackburn) they actually rang round and found the cheapest local supplier for us -
