I went today to exchange a 3.9kg orange propane cylinder for a new Calorlite 6kg cylinder so that I had two full ones fora month long trip away. It seems that since 01 Aug Calor has changed the policy so that you now have to buy the Calorlite and take outa new ownership agreement. Instead of £18 which my first one cost me the new price would have been £29. Since I have managed for years with only two 3.9kgs I decided to not buy the new Calorlite. So if you are thinking of changing get out there now as there may be some suppliers who will do a simple exchange.

You should also add that you can get a refund on the old Contract based on a sliding scale. This at least balances to a degree the new charges, unless you are like me who has had a Contract since the 70's. I therefore will stick to what I have.

I think its supply and demand, demand has been extremely high for the calorlite bottle , few weeks back they would only exchange if you had an empty calorlite.

Im sure it will calm down again they chop and change their policies, they use to charge if you changed cylinder sizes.

Demand is always much higher in the summer and also the increase in campers and caravans this year hasnt probably helped.

Just proves how popular they have been

My dealer tells me the problem is once they are purchased they "disappear" into caravans for a year or more - so the initial production has been soaked up and they are now in short supply.

The new Claorlite are available quite raedily around Wilts which is not a surprise as one dealer said he'd had 5 people in 2 days decide not to exchange an old 3.9kg propane for a new Calorlite. We have used the 3.9s for some years now and most of our usage tends to be in Winter. Going to France in the mountains for 4 weeks I thought the Calorlite would give me an extar 2 kgs and thus avoid having to buy Campingaz or other alternatives.

The link is useful but does not say anything about the exhange policy which my supplier said came out on 1 August. Around here there is no shortage of Calorlites so that's not the problem. It's the sudden notifaction of the exchange policy that takes another

Yes I paid that to go from 3.9kg propane to the new Calorlite. It was at the Discover group during their early Spring sales. Might have been one reason why some have now closed down!

Guys

Believe I have just fallen into this problem, went to our local retailer to change from 6Kg propane to 6Kg Calor lite, was happy to pay admin fee or what ever but was told that I would cost me 30.00 for new agreement plus the refill charge? When I asked about money back on old agreement the guy shrugged his shoulder and said no refund would be forthcomming unless I could provide proof of purchased from him originally., so left it will go back tomorrow for round 2!! complete with original agreement... Sometimes pays to be a hoarder...........

You shouldn`t have to pay for a new agreement. If they try this, I would walk away. I changed my 7kg butane for a calorlite without any problems or charges other than the gas, last week.

If you have any problems I would ring calor themselves and they will give you the address of your local depot, also will give you the lo down on their current policy.

I found them quite helpful.
